Getting Ready for Your Appointment

There are several sections you must review before your appointment occurs.

Please review them now. Some must be completed several days before your appointment.

READ THIS NOW:

Please make sure the following items will be done BEFORE the appointment. If these will not be done, please go back and choose a different appointment (cancel and select a new one).

  • To the best of your knowledge, the animal will have an expected weight of at least 3lbs (2.25lbs at vets other than Brookview) on the date of the alter.

  • Vaccines will be given (at least 1 at Brookview, 2 for kittens at other vets), administered at least 5 days before the alter appointment.

  • Deworming will be complete by the date of the alter.

  • Microchipping will be complete or is scheduled to be done at the alter if it’s at Brookview.
  • FeLV (and FIV if over 6 mo) testing will be complete or is scheduled to be done at the alter if it’s at Brookview.

    • In limited circumstances, animals may be tested at other alter locations – leadership approval needed and test kit will need to be picked up before the appointment.

Getting Ready for Your Appointment

You MUST review the information in this section at least 1 week before going to your appointment, but it is best to do it NOW. Links to all of the documents you will need and the card to attach to your carrier are below.

Instructions

There are a couple of things to do before your appointment.

Review any documents you need to bring with you or to send in advance.

  • If a vet location does not have a document on the linked page, you do not need to bring paperwork with you to the appointment.
  • Brookview forms can be filled out ahead of time.
  • ONLY the indicated items will be done. Mark all items on Brookview you want considered. Nothing is routinely done at any appointment. If you want Rabies, Testing, Ears, Health Check, Microchip, and Alter done, you must indicated every single one of those items on the form.
  • Kierland requires documents be emailed 48 hours before an appointment.
  • Altered Tails no longer requires paper forms to be printed and brought in.

Edit and print your carrier cards.

  • Print and tape one card onto each of the the corresponding carriers on the day of the appointment.
  • Use buttons to access both the printable and Google Docs versions of the Carrier Cards.

On the Vet Information Table:

  • Review the general arrival and pick up instructions.
  • Review where the veterinary office is located.
  • Review information on when food needs to be withheld the night before if an alter (or use of anesthesia) is scheduled.
  • Unless stated otherwise, animals can have unrestricted access to water.

Add your appointments to your personal calendar now!

  • As soon as you get confirmation, please add it to your calendar!

Review the Cancellation Policy

Appointments must be cancelled at least 72 hours in advance. View full policy for all details.

Cancellation Policy

Appointments must be cancelled at least 72 hours in advance.

If you are unable to keep the appointment because of an issue with the animal, and it is less than 72 hours before, please post in your MED chat with your reason for cancelling. The sooner you can do this, the easier it will be to find someone to take the spot.

If you are unable to keep the appointment because of a personal emergency, or for transport or scheduling reasons, please reach out to your mentor as soon as possible. We may be able to find a volunteer who is willing to transport animals to your appointment for you.

If it is more than 72 hours before your appointment, you must cancel by calling the vet directly and notifying your mentor in your MED chat.
